Bayfield Willow Tree – Removal and Next Steps

Bayfield Willow Tree – Removal and Next Steps

At the June 16, 2025 Regular Council Meeting, the Council of the Municipality of Bluewater provided direction to Staff to proceed with the full removal of the Weeping Willow tree located at the corner of Bayfield Main Street North and Catherine Street, in front of The Little Inn. This decision follows a third-party arborist’s assessment and recent pollarding work, which identified advanced internal decay and carpenter ant activity. These findings raised concerns regarding the tree’s structural integrity and long-term health. The removal has been planned for Thursday, July 3rd (weather dependent).

Recognizing the tree’s visibility within the community, Council also provided direction to Staff to consult with the Bluewater Heritage Advisory Committee on a recommendation for a replacement tree. A report outlining options will be presented to Council at a future meeting.

Additionally, Staff have been directed to work with The Little Inn to establish a procedure for the distribution of salvaged wood from the willow tree. Further information will be shared following Council’s review and approval of the proposed approach
