Our water and wastewater systems

The utilities the Municipality of Bluewater provides are water and wastewater. Gas, hydro and telecommunications are provided by other utility companies. The Municipality of Bluewater owns four water and three wastewater systems:

  • Bluewater water distribution system
  • Hensall water distribution system
  • Varna water distribution system
  • Zurich water distribution system
  • Bayfield wastewater
  • Hensall wastewater
  • Zurich wastewater

If you have an issue with your water or wastewater system during office hours, contact the municipal office and a work order will be processed for Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) to respond.

OCWA is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all the water and wastewater systems in Bluewater.

Water sources

This system is supplied with water from the Lake Huron Primary Supply System (LHPWSS). The LHPWSS treatment plant is located in South Huron. The water is treated at this plant for distribution to member municipalities.

This system is supplied with water from a well owned by the municipality.

This system is supplied with water from two wells owned by the municipality. 

Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) requires the municipality to notify users of this distribution system of high sodium. Utility bill quarterly due dates

The majority of utility accounts are billed quarterly. The quarterly billing dates do not change from year to year and include:

  • January 31 (billing period October 1 to December 31)
  • April 30 (billing period January 1 to March 31)
  • July 31 (billing period April 1 to June 30)
  • October 31 (billing period July 1 to September 30)

There are 42 properties that have accounts billed monthly. The 42 properties currently billed monthly are the only properties that will be billed on a monthly basis.

For those who have signed up for pre-authorized payments, payments for the amount owing are pulled on the quarterly due dates. If you would like to sign up for pre-authorized payments, please see our payment options page.
