Notice of Bayfield Sanitary Sewer Flushing

Notice of Bayfield Sanitary Sewer Flushing

Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) will commence flushing of the sanitary sewer system in the Municipality of Bluewater in Bayfield. A portion of the Bayfield sanitary system will be flushed in 2026 and the remainder will be flushed in 2027.

We ask that landlords please share this notice with their tenants.

For 2026, flushing will take place in the affected areas from July 27 to 31. A rough description of the area of work includes the following. However, we recommend viewing the annual sanitary sewer flushing map for the best description.

  • 2026—Cedar drive south to Victoria Street from the lake shore to Highway 21, around the western side of the Square and to Blair Street.
  • 2027—Hill Terrace south to Fawn Creek Lane, including the east side of the Square over to David Street.

During sanitary sewer flushing, you may notice your toilet(s) bubbling. It is recommended to keep the toilet lid(s) shut.

Additionally this notice is to inform residents that a sanitary back water valve (check valve) can help mitigate the impact of a sewage backup. If you do not have a sanitary back water valve (check valve) installed you may wish to hire a plumber to install one at your expense. Please contact our Development Services Department for questions relating to a sanitary back water valve.

Future notifications of sanitary sewer system flushing in your area will be provided through social media, the
local newspaper and the municipal website. Individual notices may not be mailed to residents.

For more information, please contact Dave Kester, Manager of Public Works.
