Roads and Sidewalks

The Roads Department, under the supervision of the Manager of Public Works, is responsible for the maintenance, repair, reconstruction and signage of approximately 680 lane kilometres of municipally owned roads, 19.3 kilometres of sidewalks, 61 bridges, 331 catch basins and hundreds of culverts all within Bluewater's 417 square kilometre area. 

Road maintenance includes: 

  • Plowing 
  • Sanding 
  • Grading 
  • Ditching 
  • Sidewalk maintenance 
  • Roadside grass cutting 
  • Culvert repair 
  • Tree trimming 

The Municipality of Bluewater and its employees are dedicated to achieving the highest quality of standards in the maintenance of our roads and sidewalks. 

Within the Municipality, there are different classifications of roads. These include:

  • Original road allowances (concessions and sideroads)
  • Public maintained (owned and municipally maintained)
  • Public not maintained (owned but not maintained by the Municipality)
  • Private (no municipal ownership or jurisdiction)
  • Other (access by easement or right-of-way, trespass roads)

Closures on municipal roads are communicated through the news section of the municipal website and through the Municipality's social media pages.
