Water Restrictions

The municipality puts seasonal outdoor water use restrictions in place each year from June 1st to October 1st. These restrictions help promote water conservation in our municipality.

To balance peak demand, Bluewater permits excessive use of water, namely for flower or vegetable gardens, or allows lawn watering on the following days:

  • Odd numbered houses may water on odd numbered days.
  • Even numbered houses may water on even numbered days.

The last digit of your house or 911 number determines if your property is odd or even.

Exemptions

Flower and vegetable gardens may be watered anytime using handheld watering devices. Handheld watering devices are manually operated devices such as a watering can or handheld hose used for watering purposes.

Newly seeded or sodded lawns and newly planted trees or shrubs may have extended watering hours granted upon special permission from the Public Works Department. If you need extended watering hours, contact the Utilities Clerk at 519-236-4351 ext. 231.

Enforcement

The by-law enforcement officer, Manager of Public Works or their designates may enforce outdoor water use restrictions.

  • The first offence will result in a written warning.
  • The second offence will result in a fine of $100.
  • The third offence will result in a fine of $200.

By-law 2-2025 sets out the conditions for watering restrictions.
